New York City The line for the book signing was nearly out the door. Only five people stood in front of Christopher, Jenny and Kristy now though, as they stood and patiently waited their turn to speak with the author. The place was abuzz with excitement as people chattered about the true crime novel they held in their hands. The Millionaire's Game had been on the best seller list for weeks, and now the author was actually signing books in their town.
The line finally moved up a little.
"Jenny!" Mindy screamed as she sprang from her seat behind the red cloth covered table. "You made it."
"I wouldn't miss this for the world," the other woman said with a smile.
Christopher leaned closer across the table. "Congratulations," he whispered, then pressed a kiss to the author's cheek. He held a very tired and very irritated Kristy in his arms.
"I'm so proud of you," Jenny murmured. "I knew you could do it."
"I don't know if I ever told you thank you," Christopher spoke for Mindy's ears alone. He glanced at Jenny and gave Kristy's leg a squeeze. "You gave me my life back."
Mindy laughed. "You're going to make me cry."
"Now, would I do that?" He grinned.
"And you did tell me thank you out on the boat. I asked for a radio to call for some help for Fox, and all you could say was thank, thank you, thank you."
"Yes, and even if that guy had survived, nobody could have helped him," Jenny scoffed with a shake of the head.
"No kidding," Mindy agreed.
"Well, we better get out of the way and let Mindy do her job," Christopher said.
Mindy took the book he was holding and wrote a long passage on the inside front cover. She also jotted down her phone number before she handed the book back. "Keep in touch," she said as she tugged playfully on Kristy's pigtail. She looked at Jenny. "I mean that."
"We will. You can count on it." She looked up at her husband. "All three of us."
